I can’t tell you a time in my youth where I wasn’t afraid of something. I was afraid of a new school, new people, any kind of changes scared me. There are the obvious the things you grow up being afraid of like ghosts and Micheal Jackson (these are my fears). As I got older I grew out of the little fears, and the big ones set in. I was afraid of lack in finances, afraid of a broken heart, afraid of death, and afraid of failing in life, etc. I was in total frustration most of the time because of this four letter word.Fear is like a bug that infest every part of your life if, you don’t kill immediately! Immediately! It gets into your thoughts and containments everything God is trying to call you to be. I always wondered why Jesus always says, “Fear not!’ He says it over 110 times in the Bible. He knows just how sneaky and deceiving fear is. How fear wants us to worry about what hasn’t even happened and take God, who controls ALL, out of the situation.

Matthew 14:29-30 says, “…Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” And I would’ve too! You got a sea tossing your boat, your crew of disciple friends screaming, and they think they have encountered the ghost of Jesus! Plus, I’m coming out the boat to walk on the sea…towards the ghost Jesus. That’s my death right there. But the text shows us that if your looking at the situation as it, all stormy and hopeless, you will start loss faith. Don’t take your eyes off Jesus!

Jesus tells Peter in verse 31,“You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Doubt comes in the form of fear. You doubt your abilities, your spouse, your decisions, situations that you can’t control. The times when the rain just won’t stop and the loved ones in our boat is screaming frantically, your not going to make it, it’s just too bad out here, quit, your crazy trying to walk out to a dead Jesus. All your fears and their reassuring comments are pouring in, and you begin to doubt God! But faith in Jesus kills fears. Believing in Jesus can destroy everything the world is throwing your way. In John 16:33, Jesus says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

What are some of the fears in your life that keep your eyes off Jesus Christ Our Savior? When the spirit of fear tries to attack you, fight the enemy with the promises of OUR living God. Remind him who’s in control!
