Saw, Insidious, The Grudge, Annabelle, and anything else terrifying. I hate horror movies. I wondered why Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” I got that message too late. I would watch some of that crap and would stay up all night. Especially, those horror movies when they go get the priest and he can’t even help them! They make it seem like darkness rules, whatever! But I could barley make it through a horror movie. I would cover my eyes, cover my ears, and finally start praying. If you have to pray your way through a scary movie, just leave. I would do just that, leave.
Life can throw some scary stuff at us. Jesus tells us on earth, we will have many trials and sorrows. I personally can testify to that. Life gets like that scary movie you just cant turn off. It starts out good! You have some problems but, you still smile. Then, it get a little eerie. You may recieve bad news from the doctor, fail a class in school, get fired, get evicted, find out your spouse is having affair! I’m talking about the beginning of a nightmare! A little while later, you’re in your bedroom or sitting in your car, crying and eating chips. All you can feel is alone and devastated. The only prayer you can muster together is ” Jesus, beam me out of here! This can not be what you planned for me.”
We try to find a way out. Half way through our horror movie, we are packing up the popcorn and jumping ship. John 16:33 says, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” We too soon forget the rest of Jesus’ words. “But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Even though life situations seem unbearable, it’s not the end. Unlike some of this Hollywood horror movies, the Children of God always win! Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” We have the God of angel armies fighting on our behalf each and every moment! We must have faith that he will come through for us.
So, if you ever get like me when the movie starts to get a little suspenseful, don’t run! If you can’t see the end and can’t see how it could ever get better, have faith! Keep your eyes on Jesus and remember HE OVERCAME! If your still not certain, check out the end the book of Revelations, We Win! Be Blessed God’s People.
